While there are no plans to release the game on Android, publisher Annapurna Interactive tweeted that they will look into releasing Gorogoa on other platforms once the initial launch is out the door. Gorogoa releases on December 14 th for Steam, GOG, and iOS platforms. We’re really looking forward to Gorogoa, as it was one of our top indie games showcased at Day of the Devs 2017. It’s something you really should see to understand, so be sure to watch the new launch trailer above to get a feel for Gorogoa’s unique puzzle mechanics. Zooming into tiles and pulling elements from within certain illustrations will reveal new solutions. The game is more than just sliding tiles around, however. Gorogoa blends gorgeous illustrations with original gameplay mechanics to create surreal puzzles that are both complex and intuitive. All of the illustrations are drawn by Jason Roberts, who is also the creator, developer, and designer of Gorogoa. As Roberts discussed with Kotaku, Gorogoa took him over seven years to create, and he landed on an interactive art project after experimenting with a graphic novel and playwriting. Players must shift these illustrated panels around in creative ways to solve each of Gorogoa’s unusual yet imaginative puzzles.

After years of development and a number of delays, Gorogoa is finally being released for PC and iOS devices on December 14 th.ĭeveloped by Buried Signal and published by Annapurna Interactive, Gorogoa is a stylized indie puzzle game that involves rearranging beautifully hand-drawn tiles around a four-square grid. Nintendo (similar to Apple) has been championing this route by innovating via Controls and aesthetics vs specs and graphics. At last, the long wait for Jason Roberts’ unique puzzle game Gorogoa is almost over. Most of our devices are highly capable, but doesn't make for a better game. I wouldn't consider the Switch a "mobile" gaming machine, it's definitely console grade, but I have a feeling more touch shovelware will be popping up with it's exponential popularity this past year.Īlso, we've reached a sort of diminishing returns as far as "specs" go for making a great game. This is why "endless runners" have become a genre, it fits the touchscreen. It forces devs to create forgiving touch control scheme, greatly limiting the types of games available. The genius behind the Nintendo Switch is that they actually addressed a big problem with mobile games, which is the limitation of controls. Not to mention the people who are into gaming already own consoles or PC machine.

People pay more with in-app purchases, than full priced games, it's just a product of the mobile marketplace. There's no point of making console grade games on mobile because the market isn't there. They've been chasing Flappy Bird insta-fame and following Candy Crush monetization models. Nintendo are managing to do this with the Switch, and I presume the latest Apple products, with METAL are around the same power as the Switch?Īm I alone with this viewpoint ?Mobile game companies work in quick dev cycles with a volatile market.

I can appreciate screen sizes are small, and perhaps there is a market for some very VERY simple games you can pick up for 5 mins on the bus.īut still, sweet Jesus, how many years, if ever will it take for games of the quality of Xbox 360 and PS3 to consistantly be released on mobile devices? Ok, now that's amazing, games from now on are going to be stunning, and then we get flappy bird! I see Apple on stage demoing something jaw dropping, and thinking to myself. We're still seeing game upon game upon game getting churned out, that would be what one may expect from something like an old Sega Megadrive, and way worse than a PS2. Yes, I fully appreciate old Nokia phones has Snake, Very early smart phones had limited CPU and GPU power, but we're way way past that. Why, for the love of God are so many games so embarrassing on iPhones, and other mobile devices STILL. And please don't "Hate on me" when I ask this question.
